Are you about to give birth to your child and are wondering what the time afterwards will be like and how you can best prepare yourself? Or have you already given birth?
This is exactly the topic we are going to talk about today: the postpartum period. To make your postpartum period easier, we have selected our 10 must-haves that should not be missing during the postpartum period:
1. Pre-cooked food and snacks for small hunger pangs
During the postpartum period, you should spend as much time with your baby as possible. In order to stay strong and eat healthily, it is recommended that you take care of this in advance and then freeze the food afterwards. Soups or stews are ideal for this. You should also have food at home that can be prepared quickly and without much effort. Of course, the food should also be nutritious and rich in vitamins - especially if you are breastfeeding, you need a significant extra portion of calories. Healthy snacks or your favorite fruit should not be missing either. Especially when breastfeeding, you are sure to get a little very hungry more often.
2. Vaginal douche
After the birth, hygiene should not be neglected, and this also applies to your intimate area. You should be particularly careful during the lochia and keep your vagina clean, but do not use toilet paper immediately after a vaginal birth. With a vaginal douche, you can specifically clean your intimate area with water. You should have an intimate douche ready, especially in the case of vaginal birth injuries. We recommend our Peri Bottle , as it has a bottle neck that is inclined at 60°, so that you can rinse precisely where it hurts. Many mothers find it very beneficial to add a few drops of calendula essence, for example.
3. Postpartum pads & cooling bandages
Since you will experience lochia after birth - whether vaginal or abdominal - you should be equipped with enough postpartum pads . When choosing postpartum pads, make sure that they are made of organic cotton. During a vaginal birth, birth injuries such as perineal tears and/or incisions can also occur. Cooling helps to promote the wound healing process. However, so that you don't have to pack a cooling pack in your underwear in addition to the thick postpartum pads or go to the trouble of freezing pads, we recommend using MyClarella cooling pads in the first few days after the vaginal birth. This gives you 2 in 1: cooling and absorption.
4. Stretchy & breathable underwear
To promote the wound healing process, breathable underwear is a must. In addition to the classic mesh underpants, there is also special underwear that serves the same purpose, looks more aesthetic, is reusable (even long after the postpartum period) and is breathable. We recommend the MyClarella Mama Panty . It is not only stretchy and breathable, but also mesh and latex-free. In addition, thanks to its high-waist cut, it gives your stomach good support and stability.
5. Nursing bras and nursing pads
To make breastfeeding as comfortable as possible, comfortable nursing bras and loose (nursing) tops are great. To prevent excess milk from dripping onto your clothes, you can put nursing pads in your bra to catch everything. We have these in a washable and reusable version . If you don't want to use nursing pads, we can recommend the Brayanama nursing bra . This absorbs the milk like menstrual underwear absorbs your period. This way you have a 2-in-1 product and protect the environment by producing less waste.
6. Compresses and nipple ointment
To counteract sore nipples, you can treat your nipples with nipple ointment or use compresses. The compresses usually contain a gel or ointment. Multi-Mum compresses are great. They help with sore nipples and promote the healing process of the nipples, making breastfeeding more comfortable.
7. Small light by the bed
Especially at the beginning, your baby will often want to be breastfed or fed or will need you to be close to them. To avoid waking your partner at night, to give your baby a good comparison between day and night, and to avoid being disturbed by the bright light of the ceiling lamp, a small light next to your bed or on your bedside table is a good idea. It is also useful if the night light can be adjusted and swiveled, such as the Reer LED light . A small light for nighttime breastfeeding is also practical for the postpartum period.
8. Postpartum tea
Of course, you should also drink enough liquids to promote your well-being and regeneration. Tea and water are particularly good for this. We can recommend our organic postpartum and breastfeeding tea, especially for postpartum patients . It promotes postpartum recovery, strengthens your immune system and is made from 100% organic ingredients. If you are breastfeeding, you can also drink breastfeeding tea, which promotes and stimulates milk production.
9. Muslin cloths and enough - but not too many - diapers
Of course, diapers are also one of our must-haves. You should always have them with you. But don't buy too many before the baby is born so that you can first find out which size is right. Your little one will grow very quickly, especially at the beginning. As an alternative to the classic disposable diapers, you can also use cloth diapers. But it's never a bad idea to have a few disposable diapers on hand. You should also have enough muslin cloths, so-called burp cloths. That way you don't have to think about doing the laundry - especially in the first few days.
10. Relaxation
Relaxation and recovery should not be neglected, especially during the postpartum period. Your body needs to regenerate and you and your baby need to get to know each other and find your way into a new everyday life. Don't be too hard on yourself, give yourself time for everything, because there are so many new things coming your way.
